The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a standard architecture to deliver IP multimedia services, including voice calls using mobile data. Previous mobile technologies used the Circuit-Switch networks to provide voice call, and since the 4G technology, the voice calls need to be provided by an IP Packet-Switched network.

In order to ensure the mobility and call continuity between different Radio Access Technologies, the SRVCC (Single Radio Voice Call Continuity) and the eSRVCC (enhanced SRVCC) provide a seamless access of VoLTE services to continue a voice call even in 3G or 2G technologies, replacing the Circuit Switch Fallback (CSFB), process that automatically move a subscriber to a legacy circuit-switched network when a voice service is required, used in network with no IMS implemented.

Services provided by mobile carriers

Some of IMS services provided by mobile carriers are Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE), Voice-over-Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Calling (VoWiFi), Video-over-LTE (ViLTE), SMS/MMS over LTE, SMS/MMS over Wi-Fi, SS / USSD over LTE and other as Rich Communication Services (RCS).

Testing IMS Services

Testing IMS Services are essential for mobile devices to assure several requirements and provide the best user experience as many and many carriers have launched their IMS services and there are new mobile carriers rolling-out their IMS services, leading device manufacturers to perform IMS tests.

The IMS test cases require checking several parameters as Session Initiation Protocols (SIP) messages, registrations, different handover scenarios and many other cases as customization requirements as icons and menus to ensure the services can be enabled by the end-user or the enabled by default.

Tadtelmax and its experience in IMS testing, routes and local requirements

TADTELMAX Team has performed several IMS tests, performing SRVCC, VoLTE, VoWiFi, SMSoIP, MMSoIP, and many other scenarios, leading our team to a strong experience in testing IMS, routes, local requirements for a vast list of countries you can check in our website  If you are looking for IMS tests for your products, prepare for Mobile Carrier Acceptance Tests, or need a specific validation, schedule a meeting and get a quote.
